2013 A year of amazing highs and one almighty low...

Every year I do a summary of my highlights and just when I think I couldn't top my last year, well, I pretty much threw it out of the park this year. I have had the most amazing couples and families to work with this year and even got to catch up with past couples and capture their next chapter in life.

I attended a few workshops and conferences which gave me lots of inspiration and motivation. I worked with and met some amazingly talented vendors and people. I really and truly love my job!

I took some great trips earlier in the year including Boston, Barcelona and Amsterdam. All was going amazingly, personally and professionally until my family was dealt with a massive blow at the end of November. My dad at 62, unexpectedly died much to our devastation.

Nobody can ever prepare you for losing a parent and I can't even begin to explain the impact it has had on me, probably because I still can't believe it. My dad was always there for me, my brother and my mum. I'd come in from a long wedding day and he's ask, "How'd you get on?" then I'd sit on his bed and tell him all about it. He was the go to if we needed anything done. He could put his hand to anything. He always said, "Just do your best" so I'm going to keep doing that. We are so lucky to have had a dad who loved us with all he had, was proud of us and full of support.

Photos have always been a huge part of my life and going forward they will be even more important. Who cares what we LOOK like in them. The point is these photos will be so important to those close to us in the future. All they will care about is that they can see US in them. I'm so glad I have both photos and video of my Dad. To be able to hear his voice and look back on his life in photos is precious.

So! Next year is set to be my busiest yet. I have filled my quota on weddings, perhaps with room for a few more and I plan on visiting my brother with my mum  in America. One day at a time and all that.

So with out further ado, here are my photo highlights of 2013. See you all next year and remember, whenever you see family or friends you haven't seen for a while or may not see for a while, take a photo with them.  :)

Eleanor & Tomas' beautiful wedding day in Glin and Killarney.

I shot Eleanor and Tomas' wedding in late October. The ceremony was in Glin and then on to Killarney's Malton Hotel. Eleanor looked absolutely stunning on the day. She really has the most beautiful blue eyes which were complimented by her fab red lips. It was a great day so check out my favourites!

Jade & Ian - A lovely wedding in the Keadeen Hotel.

Jade is an old friend from secondary school. It's always nice to catch up with past friends and to get to capture their wedding is a real honour! Jade looked stunning on the day and so did her bridesmaids. I might add that I want one of those bridesmaid dresses, they are gorgeous! Jade got ready in her childhood home and then it was on to Foxrock church in Dublin for the ceremony. After that it was on to the Keadeen hotel in Newbridge where guest were surprised with a fab sweet spread during the drinks reception. Jade pulled out all the stops with fab treats for the guests with "Jade's sweet shop" and "Ian's Fine Ales's" on the dinner tables. The highlight of the night could well have been the first dance though! The couple and their bridal party again surprised their guests with a dance routine to "My Everything" by Barry White from the hit show Ally McBeal. which went down a storm! Congrats to Jade and Ian and thanks for having me along! It was so great catching up with old friends too :)

A week off....

Last week I took a whole week off. Imagine! I decided I was going to take two trips in that week. One to a hermitage to be on my lonesome and the other to Glasgow to catch up with a friend. So first stop was to Tipperary/Waterford - it’s on the border anyway! Basically a hermitage is a place people can go to chill out and relax without being bothered by the outside world. Something that people like myself find invaluable from time to time. It’s a chance to catch up with myself and re focus on what’s coming next. Anyone can go to these places despite not being religious or believing in whichever you please. Until I get that cottage in the country, an annual hermitage trip will have to do ;) I took photos, I sketched, I thought about life, I looked around and I relaxed. (Ok so I may have edited some shoots, wrote blog posts, designed my 2015 brochure and a few other work bits but it’s hard to switch off!)

That’s it really! Throw in a ninja jumping mouse, a lost mooing calf outside my door and a random visit from a girl who just looked at me when I opened the door and slowly walked away without saying a word and you have an idea of what it was like! Despite nature desperately tying to reclaim this building from what can only be described as a creation from Grand Designs (beautiful in theory but seriously needs to deport the nation of spiders!) It was an interesting experience. ;)

Next stop was Glasgow! I last visited 2 years ago to shoot a wedding. On that day I had the pleasure of having Ashley Baxter with me to second shoot. Well, I went to visit Ashley and finally got to meet her dog Indie! We ate good food and drank some fabulous cocktails. It was a great few days! You can see some of Ashley's pics here!

Nicola & Ali's beautiful outdoor ceremony in the Rectory, Glandore, Co. Cork!

Nicola and Ali were married in a humanist ceremony down in the Rectory in Glandore, Co. Cork recently. A stunning spot to have an outdoor ceremony overlooking the ocean, even if it was misty, we were all so happy it stayed dry! A fabulous floral display by the great Bloomsday Flowers as well as probably the biggest bridal bouquet I've seen! The rectory is a gorgeous venue to host a wedding in especially if it's an intimate wedding and it's private. Nicola looked radiant as did her sisters who were all bridesmaids and the ceremony was beautiful with plenty of emotion. Take a look at my favourites from the day. Nicola and Ali, thanks for having me there to capture your day!
